School and Wacky Viruses

September 19, 2010

Well this week Isaac started school at a place called Sun City World School. He rode the bus with his friend Shrey who went to kindergarten with him in Philly. Shrey is the son of Neeraj one of James’ business partners who he met at Wharton. Anyhow, its funny to think that Isaac and Shrey were together at Greenfield elementary in Philly and now they’re at Sun City school for first grade in Delhi, India. The school schedule is actually a lot different here. The new academic year starts in April and then the summer break is May and June and then classes resume in July. So Isaac has already missed almost half of the school year by starting in mid September. He looked really cute in his uniform but the collar on the shirt kind of drives him nuts. His first day was all right but he had to go to a cultural assembly that was mostly in Hindi, and he was totally lost. The main subjects at school are taught in English and then there is a Hindi class once a day. Hindi is a beautiful language, and the writing looks like a work of art. Isaac is less than enthused about learning it, but hopefully he’ll warm up to the idea. I need to start learning more myself. I learned to count to five this week and that was my major accomplishment. So anyhow, Isaac didn’t even get to go to more than two days of school because he got sick on Wednesday with a fever that lasted till Saturday. I was worried it might be Denge fever so I went and had his blood tested at the hospital, but it turned out to be just a yucky virus. Levi and Ty caught it too—gotta love the merry-go-round of germs among siblings. And to make to make things even more exciting we've all had a little bit of "Delhi Belly" this week--diarrhea or what the boys have dubbed "water poops." Fun, fun.
